Print TallyPrime Invoices on Pre-Printed Letterhead
Printing on letterhead or pre-printed stationery in TallyPrime: switch the paper type, keep the layout from overlapping, and when a custom format helps.
Many businesses have invoices printed on letterhead or pre-printed stationery that already carries the logo, address, GSTIN and border. The problem is getting TallyPrime to print only the variable details, the party, items and totals, in the right places. If your invoices come out with the company name printed over the letterhead, or text running into the border, this guide shows how to fix Tally invoice printing on letterhead.
Plain paper vs pre-printed formats
| Format | What TallyPrime prints | Use with |
|---|---|---|
| Plain Paper | Everything: company details, layout lines and transaction details | Blank A4 paper |
| Pre-Printed | Mainly the transaction details, leaving the stationery's own design | Letterhead or printed invoice stationery |
How to switch to pre-printed paper
- Open the invoice and press Ctrl+P (Print).
- Press F9 to toggle between Plain Paper and Pre-Printed Paper.
- Alternatively, choose Configure and change Paper Type under Printer Settings.
Tally's guide to configuring printing for invoices and reports lists the other print settings.
Fixing alignment on your letterhead
- Print a test on plain paper in pre-printed mode.
- Hold it against a sheet of letterhead up to the light and mark where text clashes with the design.
- Adjust the print configuration and margins. TallyPrime's advanced printing configuration helps optimise space when printing in pre-printed format.
- Test with a long invoice too, so you see how a second page behaves.
Keep a few sheets of letterhead aside for testing whenever you change printers, since printers differ in their margins.
When the standard options are not enough
Pre-printed stationery is designed by a printer, not by Tally, so its boxes rarely match a standard format exactly. Common needs that call for a print customization:
- Removing company details from the top of the invoice while keeping the rest of the plain-paper layout.
- Fitting items into a fixed table printed on the stationery.
- Moving totals, bank details or the signature block to match pre-printed boxes.
AndurilTech lists a source-code TDL to remove company details from the invoice print for letterhead; read its product page for what it changes and which release it supports. For stationery with its own fixed layout, our guide to TallyPrime invoice format customization explains when a custom format is worth it.
Before you order new stationery
If you are redesigning your letterhead anyway, design it around the invoice instead of the other way round. Leave clear space for the items table, and plan where payment details and the signature go. Our guides to payment QR codes on invoices and invoice signatures cover those blocks.
Frequently asked questions
How do I switch to pre-printed paper in TallyPrime?
Press Ctrl+P to print, then F9 to toggle between Plain Paper and Pre-Printed Paper. You can also choose Configure and change Paper Type under Printer Settings.
Why does my company name print twice on letterhead?
The invoice is printing in plain-paper format, which includes your company details, on paper that already has them. Switch to pre-printed format, or use a format that leaves the header blank.
How do I stop text overlapping the letterhead design?
Print a test page on plain paper, hold it against the letterhead to see where they clash, and adjust the print configuration. TallyPrime's advanced printing configuration helps optimise space in pre-printed formats.
