Godown-Wise Stock in TallyPrime: Manage Multiple Locations

Track stock by warehouse, shop or site in TallyPrime with godowns: setup, transfers with stock journals, godown reports and common mistakes.

When stock sits in more than one place, such as a warehouse, a shop and a site, a single stock figure is not enough. You need to know what is where. A godown in TallyPrime is a stock location, and enabling godowns lets you see stock by location, transfer it between locations, and bill from the right place. This guide covers setup, daily use and the mistakes that make godown reports unreliable.

Step 1: Enable multiple godowns

  1. Press F11 (Features).
  2. Under inventory features, set Maintain multiple Godowns to Yes.
  3. Create a godown master for each location, with a clear name such as "Warehouse - Bhiwandi" or "Shop - MG Road".

If you already kept stock before enabling godowns, TallyPrime holds it under an internal godown called Main Location, which becomes visible once the feature is on. Move that stock to the right godowns with a transfer entry.

Step 2: Allocate stock to a godown in every voucher

With godowns on, purchase, sales and other inventory vouchers ask which godown the stock comes from or goes to. This is where accuracy is won or lost: if staff always accept the default, every item ends up in one location on paper while it sits in another in reality.

Some businesses want the godown chosen once per voucher instead of per item line. AndurilTech lists add-ons for voucher-level godown selection, Voucher Wise Godown in TallyPrime and Voucher Wise Godown; check each product page for how it works and which release it supports.

Step 3: Transfer stock between godowns

Use a Stock Journal to move stock: the item and quantity go out of the source godown and into the destination godown. Record the transfer when the goods physically move, with a narration such as "Transfer to shop, challan 118".

Step 4: Read godown reports

  • Godown Summary: stock in each location. Open it with Alt+G.
  • Stock item by godown: where one item is held across locations.

Tally's guide to inventory storage using godowns in TallyPrime describes the reports in detail.
